EMDR Therapy
“What once felt like a storm becomes a story you can hold without shaking.”
What is EMDR?
Difficult or distressing experiences don’t just fade over time—they can remain stored in the mind and body, influencing how you think, feel, and respond in the present.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps your brain process and organize these experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming or triggering. As this happens, emotional intensity decreases and a greater sense of calm, clarity, and control can emerge.
We begin by helping you build tools to feel grounded and supported in your day-to-day life.
When you feel ready, we gently begin working through past experiences at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
During EMDR sessions, you’ll briefly focus on aspects of a memory while engaging in back-and-forth stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping). This helps your brain naturally process the experience in a healthier way.
What to Expect in Therapy
Take a glimpse at Emily’s story
Growing up, Emily’s home life was unpredictable. Her parents often argued, leaving her feeling frightened. As a child, Emily learned to stay quiet, and anticipate everyone else’s needs to avoid making things worse.
As an adult, Emily noticed small disagreements with her partner felt overwhelming, triggering fear and shame. She often felt on edge, as if something bad were about to happen, even when life was objectively going well.
EMDR therapy is designed to help you work through these experiences at their root.
In therapy, Emily began to recognize how these repeated, subtle experiences had shaped her view of herself and her relationships.
EMDR helped Emily:
Reduce emotional reactivity
Shift long-standing beliefs about herself
Feel safer and more present in her life
How is Emily today?
